[00:03:48] If you are an irrigation professional, old or new, who designs, installs, or maintains high-end residential, commercial, or municipal properties, and you want to use technology to improve your business, to get a leg up on your competition, even if you're an old school irrigator from the days of hydraulic systems, this show is for you. Hey, what's going on guys? Welcome back to another episode of the Sprinklin Nerd Show.
[00:04:15] I hope everybody's doing really awesome out there in podcast land. You're listening to me, Andy Humphrey, host of the Sprinklin Nerd Show. I'm finally getting around to getting around to getting shit done. Getting around to getting shit done. We probably all know what that means. Well, or you can interpret that the way that you want to interpret that. For me, it often seems that new ideas are coming to me. People are coming to me with new ideas.
[00:04:45] And sometimes when the ideas seem really good, there's a fear of not taking action on them, or at least trying them, or at least doing something to see if the idea might be viable. And so oftentimes what happens is this to-do list, this imaginary to-do list, five things get on the list and one thing gets done. So five things add to the list, one thing gets done. That means four things drop off the list. The list is always getting longer.
[00:05:14] So there's kind of this balance of looking at all of the tasks, the ideas, which ones are short-term, which ones are long-term, which ones require a lot of time, energy, and money, which ones require little time, energy, and money, which ones might take a long time but are low cost, which ones might take no time at all but have high costs, and balancing that.
[00:05:43] It's an interesting, I guess, mind puzzle in many ways, a balancing act, and it's kind of hard to share everything that's inside of your mind or everything that's inside of my mind. So there's almost like this Ferris wheel, and it just goes around and around and around and around. New people are getting on the wheel. Some people are getting off the wheel. New ideas are coming on the wheel. Old ideas are going off the wheel. And it just goes around and around.
[00:06:13] And everybody listening here can probably relate in some way, shape, or form. And the last couple weeks for me was trying to get some shit done. And on this get shit done list, there's a couple things I wanted to share with you guys. One that I'm going to play here in a minute. I recorded an advertisement for my project company, Project Harmony, Harmony Analytica. So you're going to hear that advertisement in just a minute.
[00:06:38] And then I am in the process of bringing on a gentleman to help me organize this, I guess I'll call it an advisory team. This Project Harmony advisory team. And if you're listening to this episode, there's a good chance that you might be interested in joining the advisory team. And what we're going to do, what my plan is for the advisory team,
[00:07:06] is to build something that's different than a traditional business mastermind. This isn't a business mastermind really at all. This is a place where if I can build the framework for a sandbox, I want to invite others to come play in the sandbox. And what playing in the sandbox means is trying out new technology, trying out some new devices. And these really aren't going to be types of devices that are readily available.
[00:07:33] These are going to be devices that I find or that other members of the team find that we can all purchase together, try out together, learn things together to kind of level up what's possible without needing to rely on these slow-ass traditional manufacturers. And I won't name any names, but the larger the company in any industry, it means the larger the sales volume have to be for those companies,
[00:08:00] which means they have to make products that are for the largest number of customers. And if the largest number of customers are not the innovators and the early adopters in terms of the technology lifecycle, then the big companies are never going to make products. They're for the innovators and the early adopters. And so that's what Project Harmony is about. And the Project Harmony advisory team is to try to find you,
[00:08:30] you, Mr. and Mrs. Innovator, you, Mr. and Mrs. Early Adopter, that would like a place of other like-minded people like yourself to experiment and to try things and to fail together and to not be alone and to have a place to wonder and to share thoughts of curiosity and to ask questions. And so I'm finally getting this together,
[00:08:59] and it's probably, man, like if I said it 10 years in the making, it's even longer than that, but it's time. So I'm going to, and I mentioned this a couple episodes ago, but I will put a form up. I'll have to replay the last episode to find what URL I gave out. This one is going to be harmonyanalytica.com forward slash future. Harmonyanalytica.com forward slash future.
[00:09:29] And you spell analytica, A-N-A-L-Y-T-I-C-A. Tica, analytica, like analytics, but no S. There's an A. And the plan is still in the works, but it's going to be something like a voluntary group meeting every two weeks
[00:09:56] with the goal of everybody being able to join one meeting per month. But we know that schedules are busy, so if there are two available meetings per month, perhaps then you could join one of them. It'll probably be a Zoom type meeting where, if possible, camera's on so we can really get to know each other.
[00:10:25] And then I'll probably start out by sharing what I'm working on, allowing a forum for all y'alls to ask questions. And then each meeting, if possible, I would like to bring on sort of an expert in a certain area that may or may not be from this industry, but is an expert in one area of technology.
[00:10:53] So I think it could be pretty exciting. And I think that business masterminds are good as long as there is a lot of structure to them because I've been in some. And what I want to do is build a group where people actually participate and can take action. It's not a group of...
[00:11:20] I really don't want a group just for people to sit and listen. Because you could just watch recordings. It's really what I want is to actually build a group of people that can take some action. They want to try to put a new sensor in, see what it does to expand their portfolio of possibilities for their clients. So if a client says,
[00:11:46] hey, can you make sure my landscape lights turn on when I come in the driveway? You know, that seems kind of easy, but those kinds of things. Hey, can you put a meter on my pool fill line? I'd like to record the consumption on my pool fill. And I think it might be sticking, but I'm not really sure. So let's go ahead and put a flow sensor on the pool fill
[00:12:16] and report on that. Those kinds of things. I think it could be really fun. And especially if we can get a few different types of people together. You know, maybe somebody who has a really large residential maintenance company. Maybe somebody who has a ton of green roof experience. Maybe somebody who works with a lot of municipal irrigation systems. Maybe somebody who does a lot of xeriscaping and works in the dry Southwest, right? Maybe somebody that works with a lot,
[00:12:45] works on a lot of commercial and specification grade systems for a new construction. It would be really nice to have a diverse group all within the innovators and early adopters. And if you're not sure what that means, just look at the devices that you have in your possession, in your vehicle, in your home. Do you have the latest iPhone? If you do, you're probably an early adopter.
[00:13:14] If you don't care what kind of iPhone you have, you are not an innovator or an early adopter. You're probably a majority, late majority, laggard, etc. If you are running on something like Service Titan, you're probably an early adopter of these technologies. If you send digital invoices to your customers, you're probably an early adopter. If your email address is at Yahoo,
[00:13:43] is at Gmail, is at AOL, you're not an early adopter. And if your email address is not your business, you better change that right away. Won't share the entire story, but pulled up behind a pretty nice looking service vehicle for, it was an electrician. But then at the bottom of the truck, it was something like, you know, Joe's electric service at AOL.com.
[00:14:12] And I just, anyway, don't be that guy. Don't be that guy that has an AOL, a Gmail address and shares it with their customers. That's cool. If you want to email your friends and family from that, you should. I use a Gmail address, but don't use it for your business. It's so unprofessional. Don't do it. And if you need help, reach out to me. I will set you up with one for free. I won't even charge you. Okay? So if you have an old school email address, you can contact me and I will walk you through setting up a new email address absolutely free.
[00:14:42] So let's do it. All right. Yeah, that's what I got going on this week. That's what I'm planning to get started with. And, yeah, I hope you guys are having an awesome winter. And as always, thank you for those who have been in touch. It's great to meet new folks out there that are just learning about the podcast and just trying to level up their technical abilities
[00:15:09] kind of beyond the commoditization of Wi-Fi and the commoditization of, you know, flow with irrigation controllers. For those of you looking to add wireless sensors to any platform, I'd love to be in touch with you. So, yeah, thanks again. And see you on the Team Harmony group, or at least I'll be looking at the list of those that are interested and sign up to learn more. So thanks again. Enjoy your day.
[00:15:39] And we'll see you on the next episode.
