But an irrigation contractor in Indiana did—and the day this episode drops, we're meeting in person to explore technology, IoT, and possibilities for their business.

[00:00:32] Today, the Friday, this episode comes out. I should be, planning to be, will be, I say I'm going to be, meeting with an irrigation contractor in northern Indiana.
[00:00:46] And a couple of months ago, this gentleman reached out to me after listening to the podcast, and he was, is, was, currently super interested in all kinds of technology, got lots of great ideas about IoT and what's possible for their business. And so, now, we are getting together. I think that's pretty cool. And it has me thinking about something that I want to share with you.
[00:01:17] And that is, I took a little bit of a risk, and in some episodes, which you've probably heard, I put my cell phone number out there. And here it is, I'm putting it out there again, 208-908-3229. And I invite you, I invite people, I invite anyone listening to contact me. Say, hey, say, what's up, Andy? And when I first started putting my cell phone number out there, I thought it might not be a good idea.
[00:01:45] I thought, man, what if everyone starts texting me all the time? I thought it might be a little bit risky. But, well, turns out, my phone survived, and not everyone contacts me. And that's really the point, is it's almost like a filter. So, if I say few people contact me, it's those who do that stand out, that have an opportunity to make a difference.
[00:02:14] And so, when somebody does, it's almost like it catches my attention. And so, here's someone who heard something. They got curious, and they took that curiosity one step further. They pressed send on the text message to me. That little step is interesting, because I wonder how many conversations we talk ourselves out of having.
[00:02:42] We say to ourselves things like, they're probably too busy. Things like, my question might sound stupid. Say things like, I should probably know more before I ask. But, meanwhile, the person on the other end might be generally excited that somebody cares about the same weird, nerdy stuff that they do. And that's how I feel.
[00:03:08] You're curious about solar moisture sensors and connecting things and figuring stuff out. Hell yeah. Let's talk. Bring your curiosity. I'll bring mine. Let's see where it goes. So, who's that person for you? Have you been meaning, who have you been meaning to contact? What have you been wanting to ask? Your first message can be pretty simple. Maybe just something like, hey, I heard you talking about this thing.
[00:03:37] I'd love to understand it better. That seriously, that right there, that's enough. Just like, hey, my name's John. I'm in Alabama. And I'm super interested in the things you talk about. That's cool, man. That's enough right there. We spend a lot of time on this show talking about getting devices to communicate with each other. Today, I'm excited about two people doing the same thing.
